Our Puja

Griha Pravesh, also known as Grah Pravesh, is a Hindu ceremony performed when a person enters their new home for the first time.

It is believed to bring positivity, prosperity, and happiness to the new dwelling. The ceremony may vary in details based on regional customs and personal preferences, but here is a general outline of the steps involved in Griha Pravesh Puja:

  1. Selecting an Auspicious Date:

    • Consult with a Hindu priest or an astrologer to choose an auspicious date and time for the Griha Pravesh. Factors such as the homeowner’s astrological charts and the Hindu calendar are considered.
    •
  2. Cleaning and Purification:

    • Thoroughly clean the entire house to remove any negative energies.
    • Perform a purification ritual by sprinkling Ganga jal (holy water) in all rooms.
    •
  3. Ganesh Puja:

    • Begin with a puja (worship) of Lord Ganesh, the remover of obstacles. Offer prayers and seek his blessings for a smooth transition into the new home.
    •
  4. Navagraha Puja:

    • Perform a puja for the Navagrahas (nine planets) to seek their blessings for harmony and well-being.
    •
  5. Kalasha Sthapana:

    • Set up a Kalasha, a copper or silver pot filled with water, betel nut, coconut, flowers, and coins. Place it near the entrance as a symbol of prosperity.
    •
  6. Vastu Puja:

    • Perform a puja to honor Vastu Purusha, the deity associated with the dwelling’s energy and alignment.
    •
  7. Havan (Fire Ritual):

    • Conduct a havan by igniting the sacred fire using ghee, herbs, and wood. Offer prayers and perform rituals while chanting Vedic mantras.
    •
  8. Surya and Chandra Puja:

    • Offer prayers to the Sun (Surya) and the Moon (Chandra) deities for their positive influences on the household.
    •
  9. Prayers to the Family Deities:

    • Invoke the blessings of family deities or personal gods worshipped by the homeowner.
    •
  10. Aarti:

  1. Perform aarti (ritual of waving lamps) to conclude the puja. Circulate the aarti plate around family members and present it to the deities.

  1. Breaking of the Coconut:

    • Break a coconut near the threshold, symbolizing the breaking of any obstacles and the beginning of a new, fruitful life.
    •
  2. Entering the Home:

    • After the completion of the puja, the family can enter the house together, led by the eldest member carrying a lit lamp.
    •
  3. Feast and Celebration:

    • Conclude the ceremony with a celebratory feast, inviting friends and family to share in the joyous occasion.

It’s important to note that specific rituals and traditions may vary based on cultural and regional differences. Consulting with a knowledgeable priest or following family traditions is recommended for a personalized Griha Pravesh Puja.
